We’ve been noticing that through the COVID 19 pandemic, our neighbors have found creative ways to reach out…
Daily postings of “dad” jokes
Sharing abundances
Impromptu polls on the side of a fence…
Messages of hope and encouragement
Aren’t we fortunate to live in such a friendly and vibrant community!
Here are some things you may want to know about:
Mar Vista Farmers Market
MVFM www.marvistafarmersmarket.org is open on Sundays from 9am-2pm but lately there is often a wait (due to new health guidelines for farmers markets) to get into the market to shop. Seniors get to go to the front of the line between 1-2pm.
To help mitigate these limitations many of the farmers are offering pre-order services or neighborhood drop offs. Kiki a neighbor on 3700 Barry Ave just north of Venice is a drop off site for Tamai Farmers. http://www.marvistafarmersmarket.org/Seniors.asp. (not limited to seniors)
Ever wonder what happens to the extra produce Farmers don’t sell? The MV Farmers Market has partnered with a terrific group called Food Forward. https://foodforward.org
They have had to however shut down so local community volunteers are temporarily filling in for the Food Forward staff and volunteers that typically brings surplus foods and produce to community organizations once the market closes. Big thanks to the farmers that make the donations and to the volunteers that support this program.
The doors to family-owned Rustic Kitchen Market Cafe are proudly open to the community offering their full menu of delicious items, including signature sliders, salads, lobster mac n cheese and steak frites, to name a few.
Pick up a few necessities at their Gourmet Market, which offers everything from eggs to tissue paper to bulk items, coffee, teas and pastas. While you may not be able to sit at the Wine Bar, you can still purchase a lovely bottle of wine to pair with your dinner from their impressive selection. And don’t forget to grab something sweet from the freshly baked dessert case.
Uncertain times like this can be stressful, which is why Well Baby Center is still offering their same supportive services to Mar Vista. Their professional counselors are ready to safely serve you with online sessions, specializing in infant and maternal mental health, relation and couples counseling, parent education and social support groups. They offer a free 15-minute phone consultation with clinical staff to help select the best service option for you. Lost your job due to Covid-19 or currently out of work? Not to worry…they offer a sliding pay scale for most services.
