We hope you’re doing as best as possible given the current state of this health emergency. Although MVNA itself is not in a position to guide/advise you, we do want to make sure you have easy access to some official websites and sources of information. There are also some neighborly ideas we’ve gathered from some of our friends here in Mar Vista.

Connecting Neighbors (Safely) and Creating Community
Ideas to the question “How can I help?
Text/call neighbors before you head to the store to see if they need anything, especially our elderly and high-risk neighbors.
We’re loving the lending libraries that have supplemented books with canned goods, puzzles, toilet paper, etc. St. Andrews on National has created a give/get self-serve spot!
It was created by one of our own Mar Vista neighbors to try to organize
volunteers with those in need.
Keep an eye on the Mar Vista Branch Library for Carole, our local librarian, since staff are no longer in the facility. Call our SLO if you see anything suspicious.
Some block captains are reaching to neighbors (via paper, email and text) to update their block rosters so everyone on your block has the most up to date contact info.
Several local seamstresses have created face coverings and are making them available to our neighbors. You can too if you’d like to break out your sewing machine and happen to have some scraps of fabric on hand. Here’s a handy guide from the CDC about wearing and making them: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
If you’re in need of a mask, check out Next Door for friendly posts of people in Mar Vista who are offering them to our neighbors.
Support Our Local Establishments
Many of our favorite local places are still operating business safely
The Lady & Larder is selling their specialty foods through their new “Lady Bodega” tab on their website. They’re also featuring a farmer’s market produce box under “Pop up and Pick Up”, where payments go directly to farmers. You can order online and stay socially distant as you pick up your goodies just outside their store: https://ladyandlarder.com/
Need some savory Taiwanese food? Little Fatty is offering some good eats including frozen potstickers to make at home https://www.littlefattyla.com/
Safely stock up on groceries at Grand View Market, where the shelves are stocked with those hard-to-find items.
And don’t ignore your very-necessary daily caffeine fix at Alana’s Coffee Roasters- where you can conveniently order beans and drinks online for contactless local pickup.
Fun Stuff for the Kids (Big and Small)
Parents and children are getting some quality time together right now. Here are some fun things to do
Sidewalk art anyone? Your neighbors are appreciating your special notes and pictures of rainbows… keep up the great work!
There have been some “scavenger hunt/ I Spy” ideas on Next Door… teddy bears, pictures of super heroes and emojis hung in windows across Mar Vista for our little ones to find on their bike rides and walks.
A group of neighbors have been “Howling at the Moon” at 8 pm… go on out and see if you can hear them… join along if you’re connecting with your inner wolf!
Heavy times such as these can always use a silver lining story. Do you have a great story that you’d like to share with Mar Vista? Did you order a pizza for the local fire department? Donate blood? Place canned goods or a roll of T.P. in your local “Little Library” for a neighbor in need? We’d love to hear some inspiring ways that you or someone you know has impacted someone else’s life positively during this difficult time. Email editor@mvneighbors.org to share your ideas and stories
